Building decorative materials par Li, Yan. Publication : [S.l.] Woodhead Publishing 2011 . 420 p. , Buildings should not only be functional but aesthetically pleasing. This requires the use of decorative materials both on the exterior and inside a building. Building decorative materials reviews the range of materials available and their potential applications. The book begins by considering the main types of decorative material and the physical, mechanical and other properties they require. It then discusses types and potential uses of decorative stone materials such as marble, granite, slate or gypsum. It continues to discuss the ways cement and concrete can be used for decorative effect, before considering the role of ceramics in such areas as tiling. The following chapters review decorative glass for windows or facades, metals and wood before assessing polymer materials such as plastics and textiles. The final group of chapters discuss coatings, including waterproofing materials, multi-functional materials used for such purposes as soundproofing and thermal insulation, and the use of more sustainable decorative materials. 24 cm. Fatigue life prediction of composites and composite structures / edited by Anastasios P. Vassilopoulos   Publication : Boca Raton : | Oxford : CRC Press ; | Woodhead Publishing 2010 . xvi, 552 pages : , The use of composites is growing in structural applications in many industries including aerospace, marine, wind turbine and civil engineering. There are uncertainties about the long term performance of these composites and how they will perform under cyclic fatigue loading. Fatigue Life Prediction of Composites and Composite Structures provides a comprehensive review of fatigue damage and fatigue life prediction methodologies for composites and how they can be used in practice. After an introductory chapter, Part one reviews developments in ways of modelling composite fatigue life. The second part of the book reviews developments in predicting composite fatigue life under different conditions including constant and variable amplitude loading as well as multiaxial and cyclic loading. Part three then describes applications such as fatigue life prediction of bonded joints and wind turbine rotor blades as well as health monitoring of composite structures. With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, this book will be a standard reference for industry and researchers working with composites and those concerned with the long-term performance and fatigue life of composite components and structures. -- Book Description. 24 cm. Interface engineering of natural fibre composites for maximum performance   Publication : [S.l.] Woodhead Publishing 2011 . 432 p. , One of the major reasons for composite failure is a breakdown of the bond between the reinforcement fibers and the matrix. When this happens, the composite loses strength and fails. By engineering the interface between the natural fibers and the matrix, the properties of the composite can be manipulated to give maximum performance. Interface engineering of natural fiber composites for maximum performance looks at natural (sustainable) fiber composites and the growing trend towards their use as reinforcements in composites. Part one focuses on processing and surface treatments to engineer the interface in natural fiber composites and looks in detail at modifying cellulose fiber surfaces in the manufacture of natural fiber composites, interface tuning through matrix modification and preparation of cellulose nanocomposites. It also looks at the characterization of fiber surface treatments by infrared and raman spectroscopy and the effects of processing and surface treatment on the interfacial adhesion and mechanical properties of natural fiber composites. Testing interfacial properties in natural fiber composites is the topic of part two which discusses the electrochemical characterization of the interfacial properties of natural fibers, assesses the mechanical and thermochemical properties and moisture uptake behavior of natural fibers and studies the fatigue and delamination of natural fiber composites before finishing with a look at Raman spectroscopy and x-ray scattering for assessing the interface in natural fiber composites. 24 cm. Physical properties and applications of polymer nanocomposites par Tjong, Sie Chin Publication : [S.l.] Woodhead Publishing 2010 . 912 p. , Polymer nanocomposites are polymer matrices reinforced with nano-scale fillers. This new class of composite materials has shown improved mechanical and physical properties. The latter include enhanced optical, electrical and dielectric properties. This important book begins by examining the characteristics of the main types of polymer nanocomposites, then reviews their diverse applications. Part one focuses on polymer/nanoparticle composites, their synthesis, optical properties and electrical conductivity. Part two describes the electrical, dielectric and thermal behavior of polymer/nanoplatelet composites, while polymer/nanotube composites are the subject of part three. The fourth and final part discusses the processing and industrial applications of these nanocomposite materials, such as uses in fuel cells, bioimaging and sensors. Chapters also go over the manufacture and applications of electrospun polymer nanocomposite fibers, nanostructured transition metal oxides, clay nanofiller/epoxy nanocomposites, hybrid epoxy-silica-rubber nanocomposites and other rubber-based nanocomposit 24 cm. Physical testing of textiles par Saville, B.P. Publication : [S.l.] Woodhead Publishing 1999 . 336 p. , This book examines the physical testing of textiles in the form of fiber, yarn and fabric. After an introductory explanation of sampling and measurement, the author explores the effects of moisture on textiles, then goes on to discuss fiber dimension, yarn tests for linear density, twist, evenness and hairiness, tensile strength, and dimensional stability and serviceability. He also covers aspects of comfort and fabric handle, color fastness and quality assurance. 24 cm.
